Traffic calming on Telford road blasted by residents
A traffic calming-measure has been blasted as a waste of time by residents.
The "build-out" on Waterloo Road, in Ketley, Telford, is designed to slow traffic but has been hit so many times by vehicles, that the bollards that once stood on it have been damaged and removed.
According to residents of nearby Blackbird Close, it has made no difference to the speed of cars.
Jenna Evans, 28, who lives on the close, said that the build-out needs to be illuminated. She said: "It has been hit so many times that it has become almost a routine occurrence, in fact it was hit again on Sunday night."
"And the rigid bollards that were on there have been missing for about two months.
"At night it is hard to see and during the day, if the sun is in your face, it can be equally difficult for drivers to see.
"It does nothing and I think it needs to be removed and replaced by either a speed camera or a speed hump."
A spokeswoman for Telford & Wrekin Council said: that an illuminated sign has now been moved from the build-out to the verge. "There is a works order with our contractor to replace the permanent bollards with reflective reboundable bollards as an interim measure. "These will be more visible and more resistant to damage than the previous bollards which were rigid.
The traffic team are currently reviewing the traffic calming measures in place on Rock Road and Waterloo Road."
