Bus Users Shropshire have sent each candidate a copy of their manifesto Getting People On Board.

And they have invited candidates to their public meeting to be held in Shrewsbury Library's Hobbs Room on April 18 at 11.30am.

The manifesto contains eight proposals including a smartcard system for Shropshire's bus network, quality waiting areas and shelters, and Sunday services on the busiest routes.

Peter Gilbert, chair of Bus Users Shropshire, said: "Parliament lays out the public transport structure for England.

"At the local level individual members of Parliament can choose to influence the Local Transport Authority to give people's bus services greater priority in council spending plans.

"It is crucial our elected MPs understand what modern bus systems can offer, and use their influence to bring their benefits to this county.

"Our vision is to build a Shropshire bus network that stimulates the economy, is sufficiently attractive to encourage people to leave cars at home in our towns, and is effective in reducing congestion and pollution levels in town centres, notably Shrewsbury," he added.

"As a basic minimum we expect public transport to be affordable, safe, reliable and stable."
