Richard Holmes, 33, said he had been forced to commit the "disgusting" act by another inmate at Stoke Heath Prison, near Market Drayton.
He owed the fellow prisoner money for tobacco and his debt was "spiralling out of control", Shrewsbury Magistrates Court heard.
Holmes, who admitted a charge of assault, was also sentenced to eight weeks in custody suspended for 12 months.
He has now finished his prison sentence and is a full-time carer to his mother.
