Dyfed-Powys Police said the boy was sat outside Newtown AFC's Latham Park home ground in the town when a silver saloon car pulled up next to him.

The male driver asked the boy if he wanted to get in before driving off immediately.

Sian George, force spokeswoman, said: "Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for information or witnesses to an incident that occurred at about 3.15pm on the afternoon of Sunday at Newtown Football Club.

"A saloon type silver car stopped at the entrance of the club and the male driver shouted at a young boy who was sat nearby, asking him if he wanted to get in the car.

"The driver did not get out of the car, and immediately drove away.

"The boy was not harmed but upset following the incident. Officers would like to hear from anyone in the vicinity at the time, as they may have information that could assist the inquiry."

Mrs George said police have now stepped up patrols in the area and a "thorough investigation" has been launched.

She added: "We would like to reassure people that community patrols have been increased in the area and a thorough investigation into this incident is being conducted."

Anyone with information should call 101.
