Council resignation call over Market Drayton homes plan

Planners who have approved hundreds of homes in Market Drayton  should resign, local residents said today.

People living in Rush Lane, where 400 homes have been approved, say Shropshire Council has ignored local democracy.

They say the area's drains are already unable to cope, and adding a further 250 homes off Greenfields Lane and 162 homes either side of Rush Lane will only make the situation worse.

Despite 470 objections councillors approved the plans, which were submitted as two separate applications from Gladman Developments and Danbank Developments, in line with recommendation from planning officers.

The Friends of Rush Lane Action Group, which opposed the plans, said: "Shropshire Council has been told that their are already too many houses on sale for the market, so why they want to build another 400 homes?

"With regards to resignation, the councillors did not seem to fully equip themselves with the correct information.

"And any councillor who has not done their job properly should resign."
