Petition to get Shropshire street lights switched back on

A petition has been launched calling for street lights across Shropshire to be switched back on after midnight.

The move urges Shropshire Council to reverse its current policy, which has so far seen thousands of street lights switched off between midnight and 5.30am.

The council argues the move saves money and cuts pollution.

But concerned residents in Market Drayton say they would like the lights back on to deter crime and make people feel safer in their homes.

Sian Rushton and Mike Smith, who launched the latest petition yesterday, want the council to extinguish every other lamp in every street, rather than create a total blackout in areas.
