Two Baschurch roads facing closures over water works
Villagers near Shrewsbury are facing nine weeks of road closures this summer because of water works.
Severn Trent Water is undertaking a £100,000 investment in Baschurch to help make the water supply there more reliable for its customers.
But as the improvement works are being carried out, both the B5067 Shrewsbury Road and the B4397 Station Road will face lengthy closures. Dave Kiernan, Severn Trent Water programme engineer, said: "Unfortunately, the water pipes in Baschurch have grown old and are now prone to bursts.
"To help prevent it happening, we're investing £100,000 to install around a kilometre of water pipes."
The first part of the work will start on July 18 and will take place on Shrewsbury Road from the junction of Newtown Gardens to the junction of the B4397 and Station Road, and should last for six weeks.
Severn Trent has said this has been planned to take place during the school summer holidays in order to keep disruption to a minimum for the school run to Baschurch Primary School and The Corbet School Technology College.
The second part of the project will see work move on to Station Road on September 8 for three weeks.
The water firm insists the number 576 bus service will run as usual during the works, and the impact on the school buses during the second part of the job will be minimal.
Severn Trent has arranged a drop-in session on Tuesday at Baschurch Village Hall, Eyton Lane, from 4pm to 7pm where residents can ask questions about the work.
