The corner of the roofing of a brick-out building at the Railway Inn was caught by the flames from a small rubbish fire.

Fire crews from Telford Central were called out to the incident at 9.45am

Paul Gray, incident commander, said: "It wasn't too bad, just somebody burning rubbish in an industrial waste bin, which caught a bit of fencing and led to the corner of the out building. All in all, it was under 10 metres of direct burning.

"The call was put in by a passer-by I believe who saw the smoke issuing from the back of the pub."

The crew extinguished the fire by 10.05am.

Mr Gray said: "We extinguished it using a hose reel jet and also used a positive pressure fan to clear the building because it had been infiltrated by smoke.

"Other than that it was just cutting away and damping down."

The crew was later due to make an inspection of the site.
