Apprentices show skills to Shrewsbury mayor
Young apprentices had the chance to show off some of their job skills to the Mayor of Shrewsbury as he visited them as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
Councillor Jon Tandy visited SBC Training in Harlescott to meet a small group of young apprentices and learn more about the courses they are following.
SBC Training delivers apprenticeships in a wide variety of occupational areas and the Mayor was able to meet and observe engineering apprentices in the training workshop.
He also met up with apprentices in health and social care, warehousing and administration who were undertaking first aid training and practised his own first aid skills.
Councillor Tandy said: "It is great to see the investment in training which is taking place here and I hope that young people will take up the opportunity of apprenticeships to make them more employable within the workplace."
He said apprenticeships are an important way of ensuring young people develop the skills and qualities which enable them to make the transition into the work environment.
Councillor Tandy added he hoped more employers will come forward to offer apprenticeships to the overall benefit of the local economy. His visit was part of National Apprenticeship Week 2014, which is running until Friday
