Knicker draw is under spotlight in Shrewsbury
The history of the humble knicker will be under the spotlight later this month.

Self-confessed underwear lover Rosemary Hawthorne will be on stage at Theatre Severn and will be delving in to the drawers of history in her hilarious one woman show The Knicker Lady.
Rosemary began to cultivate her passion for the history of underwear at Rada, after winning the highly-coveted costume prize, and very soon emerged as a leading authority on all things undergarment.
Her first book, Knickers: An Intimate Appraisal, which was published in 1991, was a huge success and became the gospel on everything from pantaloons and pantalettes to divided drawers and bloomers.
She has gone on to publish books covering the bra, stockings and suspenders, chinstraps and corsets.
In her show Rosemary explores 250 years of bloomers, briefs and bustles and presents the myriad of colourful characters that wore them. Audiences can expect to be transported back to the muslin-clad elegance of Jane Austen's England, the corset-bound 19th century, the suffragettes and daring darlings of the Roaring Twenties.
She will scrutinise the liberty bodice, school knickers, and thongs. And, in case men feel left out, she even casts her eye on the mighty Y-front.
The Knicker Lady will be appearing at Theatre Severn on Friday. For more information go to www.theatresev ern.co.uk or by call the box office on (01743) 281281.
