Honeymoon delays sentence over Shrewsbury Town clash violence
A 40-year-old man involved in violence before a Shrewsbury Town match has had his sentence delayed so he can go on honeymoon.
Alan Fields had admitted a charge of violent disorder linked to fighting involving fans from Shrewsbury and Walsall in October last year.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday sentence on Fields, of Farringdon Road, Walsall, was adjourned for reports.
Recorder Jason MacAdam agreed to delay sentence until January 10 because Fields is due to get married on Saturday and go on honeymoon to Majorca for two weeks.
Fields was one of dozens of people arrested on October 14 last year after Town fans clashed with rival Walsall supporters before a League One game.
Skirmishes started in Mardol, Shrewsbury, in front of horrified shoppers before spilling into Smithfield Road, bringing traffic to a standstill. It cost £60,000 for police to deal with the disorder and to investigate and prosecute those involved.
A number of other fans from Shrewsbury and Walsall have already been sentenced and given suspended prison sentences or lengthy banning orders.
