Shropshire Badger Group in advert plea to keep badger cull out of county
Shropshire Badger Group has paid for an advertisement asking county farmers and Environment Secretary Owen Paterson to keep the cull to tackle bovine TB away from the county.
Mr Paterson says the cull, which has so far destroyed 940 badgers, had been a success, and suggested a four-year programme carrying on the work to provide "clear disease benefits".
The advert, published in today's Shropshire Star, states: "The present culling has generated a huge amount of ill feeling and disruption within rural communities, not only as a result of the protests but there are farmers around the culling areas who are strongly opposed to it."
It adds: "The eventual solution has to be vaccination of both cattle and badgers. It's a proven method of dealing with human diseases."
