Andy Mitchell, was unanimously elected at a meeting of Shifnal Town Council.

Susan Broderick, the previous deputy, had been elected mayor at an earlier meeting but the appointment of deputy was delayed because the nominees were not present.

The new appointments were prompted by the resignation of former mayor Mark Mountford, who is facing further legal action over a counterfeiting conviction.

Councillor Mitchell was also elected as chair of the leisure, health and education steering group and sits on the employment committee, the magistrates court working group and the town plan steering group.

He was elected on to Shifnal Town Council in this year's local elections.
