A man serving an indeterminate prison sentence for sex offences against young boys will not be released from jail for at least eight months – after admitting further historic charges against a boy from Shropshire.

Colin Jelly, 71, was living in Market Drayton when the offences against the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, occurred.

He appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday for sentence, having admitted two counts of indecent assault at a previous court hearing.

The court heard the offences happened between 1998 and 2000, when the boy was aged 11 and 12, but only came to light recently when the boy's mother reported it to the police.

Jelly, a serving prisoner and of no fixed abode, was jailed for an indeterminate period at Worcester Crown Court in 2006 for offences of grooming. He was ordered to serve a minimum of two years – but has shunned parole hearings because he does not feel ready to be released.

Judge Peter Barrie sentenced Jelly to 16 months imprisonment for each charge, to run concurrently. He will be eligible to apply for parole after eight months.

Mr?Barrie also imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and banned Jelly from using the internet.
