Market Drayton football fan Corley to lead out Welsh heroes
A lot of boys dream of leading out a football team in front of thousands of fans. For one 10-year-old from Market Drayton this will become a reality after he was selected to be a player escort for a World Cup qualifier next month.
Corley Stevenson applied to the FAW in February and found out last week that he would be helping lead out Wales in their match against Macedonia in Cardiff on October 11.
As part of the day, the Market Drayton Junior School pupil will get to have a tour of the ground, meet the players and have lunch. Corley, who is a season ticket holder at Wolves, said: "I was really excited when I found out.
"I kept looking at the Wales first team to see who I could go out on to the pitch with. I hope it is Gareth Bale or one of the Wolves players."
His mother Nadine said: "He was absolutely delighted when he found out. He couldn't wait to tell his teachers and friends. It was a shock. When you apply to these types of things you don't think you have got much chance of winning. You don't know which game you're going to get when you apply.
His mum added: "He loves all football. He is always watching it when it is on.
"Like a lot of boys he would love to be a professional footballer. But he would be quite happy to do anything associated with football, like coaching.
"He is a ball boy for Market Drayton Town which he loves doing. They have said they will announce that he has been picked to be a player escort in their programme."
