Ethel Lowe was taken to Worcester Hospital before being transferred to Bridgnorth, where she is recovering after surgery.

Her daughter Jacqueline is now calling for tighter dog controls at the Severn Valley Country Park, in Highley.

She said she was outraged that irresponsible dog owners allowed their pets to run uncontrolled in public places.

She also complained about the amount of dog mess seen in the park, which her mother was forced to lay next to while she waited for paramedics.

She said: "My mother has been in hospital for two weeks. She recovered from the operation but is just struggling to get mobile now."

Miss Lowe said none of the dogs attacked her mother, Ethel, but claimed the sight of them bearing down on her had caused her to fall.

She said: "Dogs should not be allowed to run round like that. I do not want to upset the good dog owners but there should be more control down there."

Shropshire Council spokesman Callum McLagan said the council believed the incident happened in a wooded area where dogs were allowed off their leads. He added: "Dog waste bags are available from within the foyer at the visitor centre. Guide dogs only are permitted inside the visitor centre."
