Historical artefacts are being transferred from Rowley's House museum to the town's new £10.5 million Museum and Art Gallery in The Square.
Workers from Crown Fine Art, which supports museums, art galleries and private collectors around the world with similar moves, were helping with the task.
Michael Letendrie, museums and exhibitions manager at Crown, said: "It is so important that we safeguard these fragile works for our future generations."
The new museum is expected to open in the next few months.
