Pumping station work will shut road near Bridgnorth for three months
Part of a busy country road near Bridgnorth will be closed for more than three months while a £750,000 pumping station is built.
Work on the station at the north end of Knowle Sands Caravan Park will start on October 15.
It will see more than 60 homes connected to the sewers for the first time.
A nearby section of the B4555, which runs between Bridgnorth and Highley, will be closed for 15 weeks while the pumping station is built.
However, William Grantham, who lives in nearby Chelmarsh, said: "It seems the road closure has been allowed without any consideration for those who use it.
"The alternative route is not gritted in severe weather and has also been closed towards the Eardington end due to flooding.
"It is also a single track lane.
"Severn Trent also had this road closed for a long time not so long ago.
"It will result in a 12-mile round trip becoming 26 miles."
Mr Grantham said lorries would struggle to reach local factories because they would not be able to get under the Severn Valley Railway bridge on the Cleobury Road.
A public consultation over the road closure took place at the Severn Centre in Highley yesterday.
Sarah McArthur, spokeswoman for Severn Trent Water, said more than 5,000 leaflets had been sent out to people about the consultation event and added the new sewers were a significant investment, which would mean residents did not have to use a septic tank, helping to improve drainage while protecting the environment.
"We sent out more than 5,000 invites to the drop-in session," she said. "However, there was a slight delay in sending a small number to customers in Chelmarsh.
"We've now sent invites to these homes and we'd like to apologise for any confusion this may have caused."
