Royal Mail creating 50 temporary jobs in Shrewsbury for Christmas

Almost 50 people in Shropshire could be getting a job for Christmas as the Royal Mail announces a major recruitment drive.

Temporary jobs are to be created in Shrewsbury by Royal Mail as it hires seasonal workers to sort the Christmas post.

A total of 48 positions are being created at the Shrewsbury Mail Centre to deal with the Christmas rush.

A further 351 posts are being created in Wolverhampton, with 248 in Chester.

Temporary positions across a variety of shifts will be available between mid November and early January 2014. The peak of the additional temporary work will be in December.

Royal Mail's managing director of operations and modernisation Mark Higson said: "Every Christmas, we make a substantial financial commitment in additional resources."
