The council today announced that Michelle Wilson will take up the position in October.

Mrs Wilson is currently parish clerk at Church Aston and has previously held similar positions at Shifnal Town Council and Lilleshall and Donnington Parish Council.

Peter Martin was suspended following a behind-closed-doors meeting of Whitchurch Town Council in 2011 and subsequently resigned the following year.

Both Mr Martin and the council have remained tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding his departure.

Earlier this year Pete Cooper was appointed temporary locum town clerk.

Mayor of the town, Councillor Rob Hewson, who was a member of the recruitment panel, said: "I believe we have made a good appointment with Michelle.

"She is experienced, personable and will work in partnership with councillors".

It is hoped that Mrs Wilson will join the Council on October 7.
