Traffic built up on the westbound carriageway close to junction three for Tong, near Shifnal, after one lane was cordoned off while work was carried out to fix a section of the safety fence on the central reservation.

Commuters were delayed by at least 15 minutes – and some took to Twitter to question why a lane was closed during peak times.

It is not known what caused damage to the fence, but it is hoped traffic will not be affected at evening rush hour.
