Crowds turn out to support legends' April Jones match
Almost 1,000 supporters turned out to watch a football match in aid of a charity set up in memory of murdered five-year-old April Jones.
Wales manager Chris Coleman, Manchester United legend Mickey Thomas and former Celtic and Arsenal player John Hartson took to the pitch in aid of The April Jones Fund, set up to raise money for local good causes following her murder.
Organisers hoped the event would raise £2,000 but believe they have smashed that target with just entrance fees alone.
Match organiser Ed Holt said: "We weren't expecting such a large crowd but because the event is for April's fund it isn't a surprise.
"Everyone has been so supportive. The focus of the game was to bring the community together through a positive and fun occasion after a very sad and difficult time for the town."
April's parents, Paul and Coral, attended the event and before kick-off supporters formed a guard of honour for the couple and their children.
Mr Coleman also presented a bouquet to April's parents before the game, which ended Machynlleth 6 Wales 2. He said: "When you have the opportunity to help and do something you cancel everything else. We have had a wonderful reception here."
April disappeared while playing near her home in Machynlleth, Powys, last October, sparking the biggest missing person search in UK police history.

Mark Bridger, 47, was given a whole-life sentence after being convicted of murder.
