Fishmore Hall Hotel on the outskirts of Ludlow, a Georgian house with 15 beds and a gourmet restaurant, has been put on the market after the owners said they would be leaving to pursue other interests.

Representatives of selling agents Colliers International say they expect there to be significant interest in the hotel.

The building was bought by current owner Laura Penman in 2007, who converted it from a school into a luxury hotel. It was previously a grade II-listed building and has retained its Georgian appearance despite being delisted.

The AA hotels guide describes Fishmore Hall as a "Palladian-style, Georgian house" which has been "sympathetically renovated and extended to provide high standards of comfort and facilities".

Ms Penman was unavailable to comment about the reasons for the hotel being put up for sale.

Peter Brunt, hotels manager for Colliers International, said: "There is clear scope for profits above £200,000 on turnover of £1 million.

"The town's annual food festival is centred on the castle and Fishmore Hall is an ideal place to stay when visiting this unspoilt part of the Welsh borders.

"Our clients have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of creating a gorgeous country hotel from a shell and establishing a critically acclaimed business whose revenues and profits continue to rise. But they have decided to turn their attentions elsewhere, giving others the opportunity to take on and develop this first class hotel in a first class location."
