Lancaster bomber out of RAF Cosford fly past

A World War Two Lancaster bomber will not be taking part in a fly past in Shropshire this weekend because of mechanical problems.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), which arranged for the Lancaster to fly past the National Service (RAF) Association parade at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford on Sunday, has said a problem with a cracked engine bolt has led to the plane being grounded.

But it has arranged for a Dakota to make a flypast instead.

Michelle Morgans, public relations executive at RAF Museum Cosford, said: "We have been told that there is a mechanical fault with the Lancaster.

"We are disappointed not to have the Lancaster but delighted we are still going to have a flypast in the form of the Dakota."

The Lancaster flew over RAF Cosford earlier this month as part of the 70th anniversary commemorations of the Dambusters raids in Germany.
