Plans to create the largest butter factory in the country in Shropshire were a step closer today after the scheme was recommended for approval.

Under £17 million proposals dairy giant Muller Wiseman will build the plant at its site at the Tern Valley Business Park in Market Drayton.

Council officers have given the project the thumbs up in a report expected to be referred back to them under delegated powers.

Shropshire councillor David Minnery today said it was 'unlikely' that members would vote on the proposal, which will instead be returned to officers.

Only one objection has been registered against the application on the council's planning website. About 100 jobs will be created at the factory.

Roger Hughes, Shropshire councillor for Market Drayton West, said the recommendation for approval was 'brilliant' news.
