Homes evacuated over fears for Ludlow Town Walls
Families have been evacuated from their homes in Ludlow amid fears of a fourth collapse along the historic Town Walls in a fortnight.
Residents living in The Linney were visited by council officials last night after an engineers' inspection revealed a part of the wall which ran through their gardens was unsafe.
Some were advised that they may wish to leave their property.
Shropshire Council has offered temporary accommodation but a spokesman said it was 'unclear' at this stage when they would be able to return home.
About 40ft of the 800-year-old wall collapsed along three separate stretches last week. The spokesman said a 'small number' of homes were evacuated.
The repair bill to fix the Town Walls has been estimated at £400,000. It could be paid from council cash reserves.
