Oswestry Currys is closed in new woe
Electrical giant Currys is to close its shop in Oswestry, it was announced today.
The branch, in Church Street, will shut in April.
But no jobs will be lost as the seven staff members will be relocated to other shops, including Shrewsbury and Wrexham.
The move follows a decision made by the retailer in 2008 to close some branches when their leases expire.
A Currys PC World spokesman said: "This closure is part of our ongoing store portfolio review. It's not a sudden reaction to the current economic climate.
"We are looking to relocate all staff to other nearby stores – including our 2-in-1 Currys PC World stores in Shrewsbury and Wrexham.
Councillor Paul Milner, from Castle Ward, which covers the town centre, said: "It is sad to see another store leaving the town. It would be nice to see landlords in Oswestry with empty properties lower their rents. It would give more businesses the chance to set up shops in the town."
