Muller £17m Market Drayton butter plant is boost for economy
A new £17 million butter plant planned for Shropshire will help breed confidence in the county's economy, business leaders said today.
Work on the new facility being built by Market Drayton-based dairy giant Müller Wiseman could begin as soon as the autumn, creating the biggest butter plant in the UK.
The news was welcomed today by Keith Winter, vice chairman of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce.
He said: "It shows there is confidence in our businesses and workforce, and it's going to be great for Market Drayton and beyond.
"Once people feel that confidence, then things start to happen in business, and there's a good feeling building amongst the business community."
However, campaign group Farmers For Action said while the news was welcome, Müller needed to back it up with further financial support for suppliers.
