The rivers Tern, Perry, Roden and Strine and rivers Teme, Onny and Corve upstream of Ludlow have been put on flood alert by the Environment Agency.

No parts of the River Severn in Shropshire are currently on flood alert. Heavy rain is again forecast for much of the West Midlands, particularly in the east, with Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin to have light rain through much of the day.

Gusts of up to 70mph are expected in parts of the UK with some areas likely to receive more than 60mm (5ins) of rain today.

Pete Fox, the Environment Agency's head of flood risk strategy, said significant travel disruption had alre-ady been caused and urged vigilance with further flooding possible, particularly across the south west.
