Tributes paid after Molly Bowman dies, aged 104
Tributes were today paid to a Shropshire woman – thought to be one of the oldest in the county – who has died aged 104.
Molly Bowman, who was christened as Mary Ann in 1908, passed away peacefully on September 21 at Portland House Care Home, in Belvidere Road, Shrewsbury.
The Ellesmere-born hairdresser had been living at a home in Copthorne Park until June, when she suffered a series of mini-strokes and spent four weeks in hospital before being moved to the nursing home.
Molly left Shropshire in her late teens after securing a top traineeship at a salon in London. She and her late husband Ivan later set up three businesses together in Luton, Bedfordshire.
Following the death of Ivan in 1969, after 35 years of marriage, Molly married Chuck, with whom she spent six happy years.
After retirement Molly moved back to Shropshire where she worked as a volunteer for the Imperial Cancer Research shop, in Castle Street, Shrewsbury, for more than a decade.
Nephew Mike Johnson, 68, said: "Her lifestyle wasn't frugal and she used to enjoy food and drink. She certainly never went to the gym or anything like that – hard work kept her fit. She was a very positive person who dealt with everything life threw at her."
A private family funeral will take place at Emstrey Crematorium, in Shrewsbury, on Thursday.
