Anger as 102 bales slashed in south Shropshire
Extensive damage has been caused at a farm in south Shropshire after vandals slashed open 102 silage bales.
The slashing spree took place at Fairview in Rushbury, near Church Stretton, between 6.30pm on Monday and 8am on Tuesday.
Vandals cut open the straw bales, which had been covered in plastic sheaths ready for storage.
The owners said only five bales survived and the remaining 102 would have to be recovered at a cost of hundreds of pounds.
Farmer Wayne Brown said he had never seen anything like it before. He said: "All the bales were grouped on the field and I think only five avoided being slashed.
"We will have to collect the bales and recover them. The attack must have caused about £300 to £350 of damage. I've never seen anything like this before."
Mr Brown's wife Sally added: "It was our silage bales which were slashed, 102 in total."
West Mercia Police said officers were treating the incident as criminal damage.
Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said anyone with information could contact Ludlow Police Station on 101.
He said: "The owner said it would cost hundreds of pounds for them to be re-wrapped. Police are investigating it as criminal damage."
