Teenage girl, 18, rescued unconscious from the sea
A teenage girl from Shropshire was pulled unconscious from the sea after collapsing while bodyboarding with her mother off the Welsh coast.
The 18-year-old from Church Stretton, who has not been named, was saved by RNLI lifeguards after she lost consciousness and struck her head as she fell, just off Borth in Mid Wales.
The girl was pulled to shore by her mother and the lifeguards after getting into difficulties on Monday afternoon.
She was then taken to hospital in Aberystwyth with head and hip injuries.
Lifeguard Caleb Spencer saw the teenager limp in the water and her mother attempting to pull her to shore.
A spokesman for the RNLI said Mr Spencer called on another lifeguard to raise the alarm before helping with the rescue.
"As Caleb approached the bodyboarders he noticed that one, a young girl, was suddenly limp in the shore break and her mum was trying to pull her to shore," the spokesman said.
"Caleb rushed into the sea and helped the mother pull her daughter safely to shore. She was drifting in and out of consciousness and Caleb carefully placed her in the recovery position until the first aid kit arrived.
"As the lifeguards assessed and provided first aid the woman explained that her daughter was prone to fainting, however they hadn't seen her this bad before."
The girl was initially taken to her family's holiday home before being transferred to Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth.
