Boy racers causing a nuisance in Market Drayton will be discussed by councillors at a meeting this week following concerns raised by residents, which have also been passed to the police.

Market Drayton Town Council has received complaints of boy racers near to the Little Drayton play area in Buntingsdale Road.

The issue is set to be raised at a meeting of the council's services and facilities committee on Thursday in the town hall at 7.15pm.

The issue with boy racers came up at a town council meeting earlier this summer where they were warned by police they would be moved on if they were caught causing a nuisance.

At the meeting police revealed that boy racers meeting at places such as the town's swimming pool had been a problem in the last couple of months.

They said they were looking to use some crime reduction measures at various locations around the town, including CCTV.

Edward Davies, clerk to Market Drayton Town Council, said: "It has been suggested that we use the existing CCTV for the play area to try and identify the boy racers. It wouldn't work because they would go too fast to be able to identify the number plates."
