The biggest arts and craft retailer in the UK could be opening a new store in Telford, creating up to 40 jobs later this year it has been revealed.

Hobbycraft, the UK's only dedicated chain of arts and crafts stores, is looking to open a new store at the Telford Bridge Retail Park.

And Akaria Investments Limited, which owns Telford Bridge Retail Park, has agreed terms with Hobbycraft subject to the planning permission being granted for an extension to the mezzanine floor.

The unit is now occupied by the Bed Shed Clearance Company, but that store is planning to relocate to another part of the retail park later this year.

Craig Blatchford, acting as agent for Akaria Investments Ltd, said the new store would bring in more people to the area as well as creating the equivalent of 40 full time jobs.

"Hobbycraft stores cater for all ages and abilities. The local managers are encouraged to nurture relationships with clubs and colleges in the community, and this has resulted in various local initiatives, for example, allowing clubs to exhibit in the stores," he said.

"Stores host craft demonstrations at regular intervals throughout the year in store."

And Mr Blatchford said the store could also be good news for smaller, independent craft shops in the area.

"Typically, a Hobbycraft store will provide approximately 30,000 different arts and crafts products offering an unrivalled choice."
