Sleet and snow was reported in Much Wenlock, Newport and parts of Telford at about 7.30am.
It followed a night of low but not freezing temperatures – at 4C (39F) – with a sudden turn in winds from the North Atlantic responsible for the snow.

It last snowed in England in May two years ago but that was further north in Tyneside and Skegness.
The Met Office said it was likely to be colder tonight with temperatures dropping to -1C (30.2F) in rural areas, rising to about 3C (37F) in towns.
A spokesman added: "Tomorrow looks dry with some sunny spells, and it's similar on Thursday and Friday."
