Residents were turned away from a crunch public meeting in Shifnal after the village hall reached capacity – with several people forced to stand outside to listen to proceedings.

Tempers flared last night after people were prevented from entering Shifnal Village Hall for the annual town meeting.

Some people left in disgust while others were forced to stand in open doorways for the meeting which saw members of the town council come under fire.

In her annual report mayor Councillor Eileen Briscoe said the work of the town council had gone "from strength to strength".

But members of the public spoke out in support of ex-mayor Gerald Nickless, who resigned last year claiming it "was no longer run for the good of the people".
