Drivers hit in spate of Shropshire road smashes

A number of motorists escaped serious injury in three separate crashes on roads in Shropshire.

Fire crews were called to a two-vehicle smash near Shrewsbury yesterday afternoon which sparked rush-hour delays.

The incident happened just before 4.15pm on the A458 at Cardeston and left the road partially blocked until about 6pm. A car and a light commercial van were involved and one person was freed by firefighters.

Inspector Helen Thomas, of West Mercia Police, said no-one suffered serious injuries and one person was taken to hospital.

In a separate incident, one car crashed on the A483 near Oswestry at about 5.15pm yesterday. She added the road was cleared by 6pm and there were no injuries.

Fire crews were also called out to Chetwynd Aston, near Newport, when a car ended up on its roof.

The accident happened on Pave Lane at about 10.45pm yesterday but the driver was out of the vehicle when fire crews arrived. No other vehicle was involved and the road was not closed..
