A rugby player was airlifted to hospital suffering from neck pain after he was injured during a match in Whitchurch.

A rugby player was airlifted to hospital suffering from neck pain after he was injured during a match in Whitchurch.

The player, who has not been named, was playing for Whitchurch III against Heaton Moor II on Saturday in the Division Four South League.

Ambulance crews were called to Edgeley Road at 4.20pm and flew him to North Staffordshire Hospital. Bob Thompson, honorary secretary, said: "It is better to be safe than sorry."
