Thieves are using the latest technology to take cash from Christmas shoppers, police in Shropshire have warned.

Two skimming devices were recovered from cashpoints outside Morrisons in Market Drayton and shoppers are being advised to check their bank statements.

Both devices were made using a camera and batteries from mobile phones to scan bank account details and pin numbers.

Constable Mick Sturland, of Market Drayton police, confirmed it was the second time such devices had been found in the town in recent weeks.

He said: "We don't know when they were attached to the cashpoint but we believe a gang of thieves is behind it.

"It's just a little bit disturbing that this is the second incident in Market Drayton inside a month and we're urging people who see something at a cash machine that looks slightly odd to either tell the bank, store manager or the police.

"All cash machine users need to be vigilant, especially when using them outdoors rather than inside banks, and be alert to anyone standing close by or sitting in vehicles parked nearby who may be watching their movements."

Anyone with information about the device should contact Market Drayton police on 101.
