A unique blueprint created by the people of Much Wenlock as part of a UK trial has been officially launched. The town is one of 17 places in Britain which is trialling major reforms to the planning system.
And 100 people packed Priory Hall last night for the unveiling of the neighbourhood plan.
The plan, which would have to be approved by a planning inspector, will cover a period until 2026 and the aim is to have a draft completed by next autumn. The document will also have to be approved by the community.
Town councillor David Turner, a member of the neighbourhood plan steering group, said there had been a good turnout at last night's meeting.
He said: "A lot of people were enthusiastic. Inevitably there were some challenging and searching questions. Overall, I would describe it as positive."
Five themes have been suggested to be explored and developed during the creation of the plan, which covers the Much Wenlock parish. They include sustainable community, housing needs, jobs and the local economy, protecting our environment and improving community services.
But the steering plan group wants to hear other ideas people want the document to look at.
A further drop-in event is being held on Saturday between 11am and 1pm.
This will provide an opportunity for people to find out about the project, discuss its aims, provide their initial views and volunteer to help in the plan's production.
