A terrified 14-year-old schoolgirl had to 'attach herself' to a member of the public to get rid of a man who followed her from school in Newport, police said today.
The girl and a friend became aware of a man following them as they walked home between 3.15pm and 4.30pm yesterday.
The girls went their separate ways and the man continued to follow one into Forton Road. He started to move closer to the girl and several times got very close.
A police spokesman said: "The man continued to follow her very closely – almost right on her shoulder at times – and it was only when she deliberately 'attached herself' to an unknown member of the public and started to walk with them that the man stopped following her as she walked past the white gates at the rugby club."
The man is described as being white, aged between 20 and 30, approximately 6ft and having brown hair and pale skin. He is also described as having a slim build and was wearing a black leather jacket. Call police on 101 or Crime-stoppers on 0800 555 111.
