Ludlow's railway station ticket office will not be under threat from plans to close outlets throughout the country as part of cost-cutting measures, according to the town's MP.

Philip Dunne said although the ticket office on Station Road had been included on a list of 675 deemed at risk across England and Wales it should be safe.

He said the office was run independently without subsidies from either Arriva Trains Wales or Network Rail and would not be affected by any proposed changes.

The list of offices was revealed last week by the Transport Salaried Staffs Association, which based its findings in a nationwide report compiled by Sir Roy McNulty. Other offices believed to be at risk include Newtown, Leominster, Llandrindod Wells and Machynlleth.

Mr Dunne said: "Any changes proposed by the McNulty report should have no impact on the ticket office in Ludlow."
