The Party in Pink Zumbathon was held at Shrewsbury College, in London Road, on Saturday.

About £3,000 was raised for Breast Cancer Research UK after the team behind Zumba Fitness organised the event which ran between 10am and 1pm and saw about 300 people donning pink and exercising.

The charity exercise session took place outside the college and instructors took it in turns to put the participants through their paces from a stage.

Those taking part learned a selection of Zumba dance moves and had fun for the cause.

Zumba instructor Vicci Moseley, 33, said: "It was absolutely amazing, absolutely brilliant. Everything went really well and we couldn't have asked for a better day.

"Zumba is known for its party atmosphere. It is an exciting and non competitive activity and we have people from 10 years old up to ladies in their 70s taking part.

"For the Party in Pink Zumbathon we had about 300 people. There was one gentleman and the rest were women."

The event also saw a raffle with donated prizes including make-up, cycle accessories and a voucher to have the use of a car for the weekend.

Miss Moseley said: "We wanted to raise money for breast cancer because everybody knows somebody who has been diagnosed with it or knows somebody who has died from it.

"I would like to say thank you to everybody for supporting us and making the day a great success."

Miss Moseley said it was a successful event and there were already plans to hold another event in the future.
