A campaign has been launched to raise about £16,000 in Ludlow to throw a "party to remember" for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The cash from the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Ludlow Celebration Fund will be put towards marking 60 years of the monarch's reign next summer.

Ideas include public events of celebration and creating a Ludlow mug to commemorate the landmark year.

Committee members will hold their first fundraising event on April 22 with a cheese and wine evening at 7.30pm at Ludlow Brewery on Station Road. For tickets, call (01584) 874444, (01584) 873324 or (01584) 877852.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be officially celebrated across Britain from June 2 to 5 next year.

Jenny Vaughan, a spokesman for the Ludlow committee, said: "We are hoping to hold a wide community-based celebration and it is going to be a big and mammoth task."
