A £50,000 shopmobility service could be set up in Ludlow, it was revealed today.

Chris Cooke and Jim Smithers, who are both members of Victory House Social Club in Mill Street, Ludlow, are on the lookout for a permanent base and a number of mobility scooters.

They are hoping the scheme will be selected for a share of a £400,000 pot available to the town under Shropshire Council's Market Towns Revitalisation Programme.

And they are calling on people in the town to get in touch so they can gauge the need in the area ahead of a key presentation to members of Ludlow Town Council on February 23.

Mr Smithers said: "We think the running costs would be between £10,000 and £15,000 a year, and we only intend to run this on a donation basis."
