One of Shropshire's oldest auction houses is set to leave Shrewsbury town centre after more than 40 years and move its entire operation to the outskirts of the town.

Halls' headquarters and salesroom has been situated at Welsh Bridge, Frankwell, since 1969 but plans have been lodged to move it to a purpose-built site at Shrewsbury Livestock Market, Bowmen Way, off Battlefield Road.

The move would also see the company create seven more jobs.

Director David Giles said: "If the plans are approved we would start building in the spring and aim to move across and open the new centre later this year."

The plans include creating fine art and general sale auction rooms, storage and offices and a parking area with 122 spaces.

Established in 1845, Halls is an independent firm of fine art valuers, estate agents and chartered surveyors.

A decision is expected on the plans by April 5.
