An 18-year-old inmate has died in hospital after being found hanging in his cell in Shropshire, the Prison Service said.
An 18-year-old inmate has died in hospital after being found hanging in his cell in Shropshire, the Prison Service said.
Michael Cartwright, who was serving 20 months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft, was found hanging in his cell at Stoke Heath young offenders' institution in Market Drayton on Monday evening.
He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at about 12.35pm on Wednesday.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "At 8.50pm on Monday December 20, Michael Cartwright was found hanging in his cell at HMYOI Stoke Heath.
"As with all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman," he continued.
"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."
