Plans for 500 more homes in Church Stretton are to be discussed at a public meeting. It follows the launch of a consultation period.

The meeting, at the Silvester Horne Institute on Tuesday at 7pm, has been called by the Strettons Civic Society.

It comes after Shropshire Council launched a 12-week consultation into the development of south Shropshire's market towns.

Organisers hope it will give residents the chance to have their say after a drop-in consultation due to take place later today.

The drop-in session from 4pm until 7.30pm, which is also at the Silvester Horne Institute, is part of a series of events across the county aimed at giving people the chance to talk to planning officers about development in their areas over the next 15 years.

Shropshire Council is inviting comments on a draft stage of a planning document until June 25.

When adopted, the document will allocate sites for various types of development, including housing, and set out further detailed policies to guide development up to 2026.

Jake Berriman, council head of strategy and policy, said: "This consultation offers people a great opportunity to see what development is planned for their area over the next 15 years, and to tell us what they think.

"I urge everyone to look at the plans for their area and to let us have their views and comments."

The 12-week consultation, which began in April, is calling for views on a number of important issues, including the level of development in market towns, the rural settlements the council should be identifying as areas for sustainable growth, and which sites it should be allocating for development.
