Old sailor deserves better

Letter: The recent appeal by me in the Shropshire Star for the location of the item known as the Admiral Benbow key, threw up many questions.
The item is in a wall at the redeveloped Furrows site. It is on private property and although may be viewed by the public, I question if the site is appropriate – there is nothing to alert tourists to the site or its significance.
The ownership of the item is also a question that needs to be answered. The item should be at Shrewsbury Museum not tucked away.
The Benbow key should be moved from its current location and a plaque put in its place, the Benbow key should then be put in Shrewsbury Museum and a fitting tribute to Admiral Benbow should be commissioned, perhaps a statue.
It appears that the select few are happy to promote Shrewsbury from Darwin, which is a good thing, to Brother Cadfael and TV personality of the seventies Percy Thrower who, when it comes to history, have no significance whatsoever.
