Buckingham Palace officials said no date had yet been confirmed for Her Majesty's visit, but it would be sometime in April. No details would be released until two weeks beforehand.

There is speculation that Her Majesty is likely to visit Welshpool to carry out the official opening of the town's new livestock market.

However, staff at Welshpool Livestock Auctioneers and town and county council officials were keeping tight-lipped over the rumours until the official itinerary is published.

A Buckingham Palace press office spokesman said this morning: "It is the case that Her Majesty is expected to visit Powys in April but we cannot release anything more in terms of date or details until two weeks before."

If the visit to Welshpool is confirmed, The Queen's itinerary would almost certainly include the town's new multi-million pound livestock market at Buttington Cross that was opened for business last autumn.
